We continue to be a pioneer in the introduction of
more electric units for the next development of smarter Engine Control Systems. The
smart FMU and electric pump are just two examples.
Smart FMU
A smart Fuel Metering Unit improves accuracy, reduces manufacturing costs and
lowers the engine harness weight. The development of built-in electronics
provides better fault isolation, reducing maintenance and overcomes the problems
associated with harness and connector reliability. Distributed controls reduce
development cost
- Improved fuel metering accuracy
- Reduced harness weight
- Improved reliability
- Easier maintenance through improved fault isolation
Electric Pump
The electrically driven fuel pump will eliminate the need for a mechanical
drive from the engine gearbox, allowing fuel to be directly controlled by
commanding motor speed.
Engine Control Systems with an electric pump have been demonstrated by
Goodrich and showed substantially cleaner and smoother control
characteristics than conventional systems.
- Eliminate dependence on engine gearbox mechanical drive
- Fuel controlled directly by commanding motor speed.
- Reduces heat rejected, allows the fuel to be a cooling sink
- Enables the "All Electric" Engine
